Kaua‘i is legendary for her unspoiled natural beauty, quiet energy, ancient wisdom, and soft, gentle embrace. Within this charming paradise located
on the dramatic North Shore, a luxurious oasis, where relaxation inherent to Kaua‘i is taken to a whole new level, awaits to be experienced at Halele‘a
Spa, the House of Joy. Halele‘a Spa takes its inspiration from the unmatched beauty and sacred traditions of Kaua‘i. Spa Director Darcie DeBartelo,
who relocated here from Chicago with twenty years of spa industry experience, is passionate about creating a unique spa experience that encompasses
the traditions, natural gifts and Aloha Spirit of the islands. She finds her work at Halele‘a to be uniquely rewarding saying, “This Island is so special. By
the time our guests arrive at the spa, they are already in a different state of mind. Their senses are heightened, and they are eager to embrace the Aloha
Spirit. Many of our treatments are designed to incorporate and mimic the unique and abundant gifts of Kaua‘i.”
What is the main goal and mission of Halele‘a Spa?
We strive to create an experience to match this mystical and magical location. Halele‘a is Hawaiian for “house of joy,” and we have created treatments
that help guests experience the essence and joy of the islands using all of their senses, from the smell of fresh maile in our custom products to the
feeling of falling water in our cascading shower, and the soothing sight of the beautiful water inspired features in our relaxation room. We want your spa
experience to embody the special healing properties of Kaua‘i: abundant water, diverse therapeutic botanicals, and the luxury of quiet time for yourself.
What makes Halele‘a Spa exceptional?
Our amazing staff. We have 25 service professionals with a wide range of experience. Several of our therapists are born and raised in Hawai‘i trained
in the sacred art of lomilomi massage passed down through generations. We also feature some of Europe’s finest body workers and aestheticians. We
have therapists experienced in sports massage, and others trained in more therapeutic, holistic approaches. The diversity of our staff makes it possible
to customize a treatment package for each guest’s individual needs. Another unique feature of our spa is the locally crafted products that we use. There
are many readily available resources here on Kaua‘i that we are able to incorporate into our products and treatments.
How do you select your therapists?
We are extremely selective. Of course we require extensive education and experience, but I am also looking for someone with sincerity and the ability
to deeply connect with the guests. We hire service professionals who can instinctively sense a guest’s needs and customize their treatments accordingly.
What are some of your more unique signature services?
We offer two different treatments that incorporate the taro plant, a root that has been used as a food source by Hawaiians and Polynesians for centuries
to nourish the body. We use it to hydrate and nourish the skin. We also feature the Nani Oxygen Infusion Facial. This treatment is popular with
celebrities, but is only available in a few select locations. It uses pressurized oxygen and special serums to repair and hydrate the skin, fill in fine lines,
and create a beautiful, healthy glow. It is a less invasive alternative to injections and peels, but with similar results. And you don’t have to avoid the sun.
What should a spa guest do to maximize his or her overall experience?
Allow time before and after your treatment to decompress. We suggest you come in early to enjoy a sauna or a steam. The heat helps relax your muscles
in preparation for a massage, and begins the skin’s hydration process prior to a facial. It is especially important to take time after your treatment to relax,
maybe enjoy a cup of tea or a nap in our relaxation room, or rinse off in one of our experience showers. Try not to schedule anything immediately after
your treatment. Take your time and enjoy the full spa experience.
What do you want guests to take away from their experience at Halele‘a Spa?
I want them to go home with a little piece of Hawai‘i, whether it’s the memory of an ancient chant from their lomilomi massage, or a product featuring
our signature maile scent, made from botanicals found here on the island—something they can use to recreate the experience of Kaua‘i. I want them to
leave here in a different state of mind than when they came. I love the look on the guests’ faces when they leave our facility—that slightly glazed look
of total relaxation and renewal. I want them to leave here with a deep sense of well being, and maybe even get a little lost piece of themselves back.
Halele‘a Spa offers treatments from 9am-7pm daily. Contact the spa concierge to create a custom spa package to meet your personal needs.
